How did you feel when writing and creating sexually suggestive panels on your pages?

When I was making “Rimjob,” I was writing and drawing things that turned me on. I was mostly focused on creating an erotic scenario, presenting the personality of the main character, and choreographing the sex play very specifically. Erotica that lack those three components don't turn me on . While I was actually drawing it, I was not turned on at all, because I was totally focused on technical issues.

That's very interesting. I wanted to experiment on a few things on my comic by adding a few sexualized panels and everything. But when I do, it does turn me on a bit lol.

Only done a few scenes like that, and they weren't really that ‘out there’. My most erotic page so far is this one…

I… kinda enjoy doing them, and feel they can certainly add some spice to a work, but am not sure I could make a story that had eroticism as a main theme!

I don't know if the one sex scene in WM is really ‘sexualized’ per se. It's supposed to convey other things than the sex itself. I approached the entire process very cerebrally, choreographing and illustrating it to telegraph exactly what I wanted (which wasn't an orgasm). Didn't feel turned on one bit but that might be because one of the two partners involved was a nazi. :P

Sexual pages can involve a lot of careful construction but it's important that they excite you, if that's the effect you want to convey.
So I like to try and maintain that feeling when I'm working on it. Makes it more fun :)

But if that's not the effect you want, like with Tantz's example, then it's a different thing.
Wait till we get a page of Basil and Martha being “romantic” though… ;)

Honestly? Mostly just concerned that someone would see what I was drawing and I'd be in trouble. Granted I was also just making a one-panel dildo joke or something similar, but I can't really imagine being titilated by something I was drawing.

More that drawing is just such a technical process. I don't really focus on my subject so much as I'm focused on where the lines are, what the curve should look like, how this shape relates to that one; so I'm not thinking about “heh, her boobies are big”. I just draw, I don't think about the subject.

But no drawing is just about lines and shapes; there's a body you're drawing, or a scene. Don't you think about the whole picture?

Pretty much what lba posted above - when I'm drawing I can only see and think about lines and forms. A human being is no different to a cabbage or a an invading fleet of space cruisers. At the writing stage I can think about those things and what effect I want them to have on the reader, but once the pencil or tablet comes out, I zone out again!

Hahah! That would definitely be steamy and passionate.

I don't think I've created any sexy scenes. I tend to get pretty emotionally drawn into scripting and sketching drama and tension, so I can imagine being turned on – but more likely just feeling awkward and embarrassed to draw something sexy.

All the emotion goes into writing and draft, though. Once it gets to later stages of the process, it's all technical and frustrating. After the page is finished, I can step back and feel it again. (Either the mood of the page or anger at not managing to portray the mood I wanted.)

Writing I can fantasize as I imagine the interaction. After that it's all the technical aspects. I've read interviews with people in the porn industry and that's how most of them approach the work. I even used some of that for the character of Belinda Brandon's aunt Trish who did porn both in front of and behind the camera. (Belle is the partner of Kim in that bit from The Godstrain quoted above)

By the way, my next page in Sword of Kings is a sex scene. But the actual act happens off camera and the pillow talk advancing the plot. Married couples do that.

I'm sure a lot of wives would prefer to have sex off camera from time to time.

Doing 3D art is a very immersive and interactive process; it's like a combination of operating a virtual movie set and a video game. So when I'm doing a sex scene – especially one that runs for multiple pages – that means for whole weeks I'm basically doing nothing but manipulating virtual naked people every day for hours on end, and sometimes digging up reference material. It's a lot of work and it does get very technical. 3D figures are rigid bodies and it takes some trickery to make them appear soft and malleable when they're all mushed together like that. I think if there weren't some degree of empathetic feedback going on between me and my virutal people, it would probably be a very dull and grueling process. The same is true for pretty much the entire creative process for me, though; not just the sex scenes.

To me I just don't know where a sex scene should be place and it not affecting the story in a negative way when I have a lot of stuff to establish. Also I don't want to lose half of my audience just for a sex scene even tho my comic is pretty mature already. Plus I know a lot people don't like how my characters look cus they are masculine females.

I can relate.

I've done a 13 page sex scene in the current chapter of my manga, now that I'm seeing the scene finished I'm very pleased with the result. It was funny and challenging to figure it out the panel layout and the characters positions. Definetely, I'm gonna make more sex scenes. And for your question, drawing this kind of stuff is a very hot experience :D

I draw erotic and pornographic art for drawing practice, so I guess I don't feel apprehensive about it.

A lot of my stories are for Adult readers, but I have some that are merely for Mature audiences. My average story length is 25 pages. I’ve been told that I should combine my character series into one and start using chapters, but then I realized that would mean that the main series would need to be rated for Adult readers and many people wouldn’t be able to get access unless they were of age or at least signed-in to the Duck.

That's one major downside of doing Adult rated comics: it's hard to get traffic from outside banners or advertising, because they need to already be a signed-in DD member to view your comic. It makes things a little more difficult. But you could do two separate collections: one for your M rated stuff and another for the Adult stuff?

Kinda dirty…I feel like I'm channeling unnecessary gay feelings through them so I usually keep the sexual part as written jokes
