You can also mention movies… even Twilight.

Oh, and Werewolves.You can includes those but mainly VAMPIRES in webcomics.

One I know: Bloodbound. Lesbian bloodsuckers. Which reminds me of the famous bondagey dressed Irma Vip (French Vampire anagram lady). She dressed all in black leather or PVC or something and seduced the ladies, sucked blood, catbrugled or something. Whatever she did it was cool and reminds me of Bloodbound by Anubis.

We had some issues that caused a wipeout of the site so I restored from Yesterday's backup and unfortunately that killed Kimluster's post.

Kim mentioned that Princess Janurary (From YOUR CHOICE by VinoMas) was a fine vampire who's sweet as pie, till you cross her, then she'll cut off your head.

I wondered why, when I visited the site earlier, The Duck seemed to think it was 2013. Very odd.
I haven't really read many webcomics that featured vampires or werewolves in a major or supporting role.
I mean there was College Roomies From Hell!!! which had Roger who turned out to be a wereCOYOTE rather than a werewolf.
Riley McCool's webcomics Life With Dragons & Public Humiliation, I believe, has a vampire in a supporting role, but months can go by without seeing him, so it's easy to forget he's there.
There was a comic on the Duck called Earthbound (now Earthbound Exodus), which when I started reading it had demons, angels and vampires. Then she rebooted the comic (twice) and I don't remember any vampires showing up. She had another comic called The WAVAM Project which featured a vampire, maybe another comic, the name of which escapes me.
In my own comic there's a minor character called Rose, but aside from some strips in the 2008 Halloween Cameo Caper, I haven't used her that much.
As for movies, I actually liked Lifeforce. Yes, that movie with the space vampires. Yes, I even like the parts that don't feature the naked vampire queen.

Yes… I think right now my favorite vampire is Princess January… When I was little I was fascinated by the whole vampire mythology…


But in movies, I will always fondly remember Lifeforce…

I have been studying vampires in the media since Middle school. I used to devour books on vampire movies. And with the Internet I'm finally able to watch them! Mario Bava made some good ones including the very influential Planet of the Vampires. Influential because it inspired Alien and Life-force among other films. As for comics there was Interstellar Blood Beasts . I actually fondly remember the Marvel adaptation of Dracula as well as the comic book.

My favorite remains Jesus Franco'so El Conde Dracula a faithful adaptation of the book with Christopher Lee. There was also a TV adaptation with Jack Palance that was memorable.

Back in the 90's I played the PnP RPG Vampire the Masquerade with a bunch of college friends for several years. It was a very dynamic group, split evenly between males and females, ages 50s to 20s, and with some of the storytellers being liberal arts majors (and one attorney) the stories and game sessions were superb!! Very moody stuff, played in the dark with candlelight (made the dice hard to read but well worth the sacrifice!) - it is, by far, my favorite exposure to anything Vampirish!!

Santo was the ring name for Paul Naschy who did lots of horror films including a bunch of werewolf ones. He's still working having done a softcore porn one a few years back that I rented thinking it was one of his classics.

Never played VtR but I've talked to someone who played both - his take: The games are very similar in both theme and rules, but VtR is more of a ‘personal horror’ game, more about the individual, similar to how VtM was in the beginning, but the latter had become bloated with End-of-the-World metaplot - sweeping cosmic events that left little room for concern over the drama and angst of things such as, say, a vampire who accidently killed her boyfriend and is now wracked with horror and guilt!

Seeing as how we all ignored that metaplot stuff - I'd say our games were VERY similar to what VtR is purported to be!

I just did some cross-genre vampire hunting in Twilight 2000 an RPG about soldiers who survived WW III. I used an RPG to kill the head vampire. I played a vampire obsessed tank mechanic who along with a group of Special Forces ended up in Transylvania.

Yikes, most of my favorite vampire comics on here are at the bottom of the last-update shuffle in my list, consigned to the “never updating again forever” pile! (つд｀)

How about Danielle Dark and Bram and Vlad! Monster Soup has a vampire right? I'm sorely behind on my DD comics reading list!

Well here's some offsite comics with vampires that I enjoy!
One of the best vampire comics right now in my opinion is Daniel by SarahN, the author of the previous work Vampire Phantasm! It's a 1930s era horror story and Sarah does a great job cultivating a creepy atmosphere, and she really gets back into the heart of what made vampires such unsettling creatures. Absolutely my favorite vampire comic.
The Vampire Witch is an adorable comic with a very appealing art style, about witches who adopt a little vampire girl.

Dead End isn't about vampires but it features a few main characters who are, one is sort of a coldhearted scientist! It's pretty darn cool.

Sweet Talk A tale of a vampire and werewolf on a date, by the sibling of the author of the above comic! Relatonship drama ahoy!

Transyltown, a story about an awkward vampire boy and his slayer friend and pet werewolf!

There's a few more I'd mention if they hadn't stopped updating for an entire year!

Vampire movies on the other hand, just watched the mockumentary “What We Do In The Shadows” and loved it, it's the kind of humor I go for in my comic regarding vampires! (Making fun of them with sort of an affectionate parody!)
It's flawed, but I still like John Carpenter's “Vampires”.
Other favorites are: The Lost Boys, Shadow of the Vampire, Innocent Blood (oh man the doofy vampire eyes in that one, haha!) Near Dark (heck yeah Lance Henricksen!) From Dusk Til Dawn (I accidentally typed ducks just now!) and Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood. And Hotel Transylvania, because I love Gennedy's work making 3d behave more like 2d animation!

Hey, do any of you Vampire afficianados remember which vampire movie had a scene where a guy meets his vampirized daughter on a creepy street or maybe in a cavernous sewer? She's wearing a white dress and says “Papa…Papa.” Very creepy scene.

I'm pretty sure it was one of the Hammer films, with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. I saw it as a kid.

Anywho, my experience with vampires came initially from the Universal horror movies and the books based on them. The original Dracula and then Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein were probably the first.

Sometime after that I saw some of the Hammer horror movies, back when they used to play a lot of horror flicks on TV.

Then there was the Lost Boys, Fright Night, and Near Dark, all flicks I saw on VHS (agreed with Amelius; Near Dark was great at the time! So much darker and scarier than the Lost Boys! Bill Paxton was unforgettable! Directed by future Oscar winner Katheryn Bigelow, no less!)

Vampires were the zombies of the 80's in a way…they were the big pop culture monsters.

In comics, I remember an old series called “Hero Sandwich” where the heroes, a P.I. firm, were hired by a vampire to catch a serial killer who was pretending to be a vampire. So cool. Once again, comics were WAY ahead of the curve with neat, original ideas!

One of favorites from long ago was the Darren McGavin series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. In the original movie and a couple of the episodes he hunted vampires. Including one from the subterranean city in Old Seattle. It was really cool when he had to face a werewolf on a cruise ship and had to go scrambling for silver to make the bullets.

I also remember the vampire comedy with George Hamilton Love at First Bite. The scene in the restruratn when Richard Benjamin faces him down and proclaims “The proscribed way to a vampire! Six silver bullets in the chest!” And proceeds to shot him. George Hamiliton in a funny Romanian accent “No that is for werewolves.” And to an astonished restrurant clinteel proclaims “Oh it's all right everyone he's fine , that was for a werewolf!”
To me doubly funny as some movies had made silver bullets into yet another way to kill vampires. Let's just say the movie lore of vampires often has absolutely nothing to do with the real legends. I'd love to see something set in the 16th-18th century that has a vampire hunt using the real legends.
@Banes: Hero Sandwich's plot was used in a short run anime of six episodes. I have it on DVD but can't remember the title. A scene like what you're talking about appeared in The Brides of Dracula as well as the Vampire Lovers. Brides… did have Peter Cushing and established the way to cure yourself of becoming a vampire if bitten. Seal the puncture wounds with a burning hot iron. There's also the last film with Cushing and Lee facing off as Van Helsing and Dracula The Satanic Rites of Draculawhich is only notable for having a yong Joanna Lumley in it as well as some cool Satanic rites with nekkid girls.
Vampire Lovers of course was part of the lesbian vampire trilogy and had the unforgettable Ingrid Pitt. She was also in Countess Dracula with was actually about Elizabeth Bathory who bathed in blood to retain her youth. There are aren't any Draculas in it.

I remember Kolchak - that scared the crap outta me!!! ‘Course I was wee little - I’d pay really good money for a movie to truly frighten me these days… There's a relatively recent movie called ‘Let me in’, staring Chloe Grace Moretz (Hit-Girl, of Kick-Ass fame). She's a child vampire (but implied to be quite old) that befriends a human boy - pretty creepy and interesting take on the genre!!

To throw some more anime out there, there is the recent series Rosario Vampirewhich is very, very uneven. It's about a normal boy who gets sent to a school for monsters and ends up being a harem with a vampire, succubus and so on. There's the famous classic anime Vampire Hunter D which was remade and rebooted and I'm sort of so-so about the remake since the original was so ahead of its time for when it came out.
And of course in the oh-so campy live-action Vampire Girl versus Frankenstein Girl. It's really a very silly live action anime. And yes it did the whole ancient girl vampire with a young boy. She dates back to St. Francis Xavier and collects a new lover periodically as they age. As much as I love Chloe Grace Moretz an American horror film can't compare to Japanese even somehting super campy like this. And of course many of you will find it unwatchable because it is so wonderfully ridiculous and silly.

And who can forget the long running Chinese wire-fu Mr. Vampire series? Wire-fu martial arts meets vampires and ghosts all from a wonderful Chinese perspective. The first one has great jumping vampires (from Chinese myth) as well as a Chinese ghost and more traditional vampire fought with Chinese weapons (spell sheets and various incantations, and who knew you needed virgin rice to leech out a curse?)

Let Me In is an American remake of, I think, a Swedush film called “Let the Right One In”. The Swedish flick is quite haunting…haven't seen the U.S. version yet.

Remember when Vampires were ugly? Me neither…though Count Orlock, the original cinematic vampire, was scary looking in the film “Nosferatu”. They recreated that look in a movie called Shadow of the Vampire, a period piece of sorts, where they're making the silent film Nosferatu, and the actor is an actual Vampire. Cool movie.

I'm remembering more. I loved “Vamp”, a horror comedy with vampire strippers, and Once Bitten, which was Jim Carreys first starring role. He's pursued by a lady vampire. “Vamp” holds up well…Once Bitten, not so much. Haha

Ps - yeah, Kolchak was cool! Darren Mcgavin played a character on the X Files, a former FBI guy who began the x-files, the actual files, in the 50s. This was a tip of the hat to Kolchak, which definitely inspired the X Files series.

I read a book called “Fat Vampire”… good read… IMO it's a well written horror comedy… They have your regular good looking, fit, athletic, bad asses vampires… and on the other hand, an overweight young man who faces them all using his brain… and extra body mass… I know it's not a comic nor a movie, but it's written in a way that it could be easily adapted…

I can't beleive no one thought to mention Charby the Vampirate! Farrrrk… Not even Amelius (out of modesty haha). -the greatest and most longrunningest DD vamp comic! Waaaaah!

As for movies: Blood and chocolate. I always mention it. I've only seen it once I want to see it again. It was such a super chill Canadian vampire movie. The vamp was this cool dude with thick curly hair and dark glasses, looked a bit like a heroine adicted rockstar from the 1970s. There were two other characters I think, a sad dude and a vampire groupie girl. It followed his life, showing viggnettes of when all these characters would meet through the years at a diner. Great little film.
I hope it's as good as I remember it.

There was that episode of that weird horror tales type show I watched where a junkie girl befirends a slick looking guy at a bar and takes him back to her place for what he thinks is a one night stand, only to have her and her junkie boyfriend drug him and knock him out, with the intention of… EATING HIM! Because they're both zombies… Only to find out that when he wakes up he's actually a VAMPIRE and now he's fricken mad!
That was glorious.

Some worthless Bravo trivia. The figure that played Bob the gray guy was Count Orlock from Nosferatu . Which was an unauthorized version of Bram Stokers novel. His estate did file copyright infringement at the time. There was a silent version of Dracula done that is better left forgotten There's also London after Midnight with Lon Chaney, which just happens to be the figure that played Lon the Gray Guy. I have seen a reconstruction of the film.

@ozone - Haha! I think that was a Tales From the Crypt episode. I do remember that the punk/zombie was played by a young Ewan McGregor! I missed Blood & Donuts, though I meant to see it.

@tupapayon - That sounds like a fun book! I liked Christopher Moores vampire series (I loved pretty much everything by Christopher Moore): Bloodsucking Fiends, You Suck and…um…the other one. Highly recommend “A Dirty Job”, though that's more about Death than Vampires…

I haven't mentioned a lot of stuff yet. Like Fright Night. I love the original with Roddy McDowell. He did a spate of horror films in the 1970's and he was just right as the host. And no one's mentioned Buffy yet. I only watched the first season because the teen angst got to me. I hear it got way better later on. Following TV series was always difficult for me since I often worked nights and at the time lived with people who didn't respect VHS settings.


I loved the original Lost Boys with all the humor and one liners. “Oh no a vampire Brady Bunch!” “The attack of Eddy Munster!” I saw it in the movies when it first came out. Speaking of Buffy I also loved the original movie. Rutger Hauer as a vampire. He was great. But Niedermeyer of Animal House did a decent vampire in the series. He'll always be Niedermeyer to me. Heck I even have the Sideshow action figure. I plan to do a vampire story eventually.

Back to comics there was the old DC comic Weird War taleswhich had a few cross genre vampire versus soldiers stories. So did the old series Night gallery. It had the story where the nasty SS take over a castle from a poor Eastern European count and his family and they turn out to be vampires. I've often imagined an Einstaz grupped executing a pile of untermensch and they come back from the dead as vampires and wreak havoc. Though of course undead Ensatz Gruppen was done excellently in Dead Snow but those were zombies.
