Yep. The truth hurts and the ones who don't like it are always out to hurt you even more in return. Back in the day, I quickly learned how to go into a wind-tunnel mode for this type of situation: create a slick pathway between your ears so whatever blows into one goes right out of the other. It's all you can do with arrogant pricks who are full of themselves, really, since they cannot conceive of anyone below them having more brains between the ears than them, so its expected behaviour of an underling and any intelligent arguments in your defence would be a waste of time anyway. As in their frame of mind a lowly minion has nothing to say that's worth listening to, they wouldn't anyway - after all it might turn out that they'd be caught not being able to understand them in the first place.
