We may assume all this is on the same two pages where the passwords are given out for the Space-Time Slicer…
The whole of the story has really been about the Smiling Man and his wife's death. It's been Smiley's whole driving force to get “revenge” on Ringo. Nothing would ever get resolved unless THAT was resolved–one way or the other.
I know she's my character, but I personally like the bit where Mindmistress, for the first time in her life, admits she doesn't know what to do. If that's not a sign of the Apocalypse, I don't know what is…
In that fourth panel, there are some cameos. I thought it might make sense, as the realities started to merge together, to show some almost about to break through. The semi-humanoid moth-like alien is Fructose Riboflavin, a villain from THE INEXPLICABLE ADVENTURES OF BOB—since it's a black-and-white comic, I had to guess at the color, and made him green. The older guy with glasses and a goatee is Dr. Catastrophe of EVIL OVERLORDS UNITED–the EOU being the main bad guys in the Crossover Wars, the largest webcomics crossover ever. The red-demon-thing is a Q'Arth demon from MAGELLAN—their invasion of Magellan's reality nearly destroyed Magellan's Earth and was the impetus for Magellan being formed. The creepy thing in the dark with the catlike eyes is just a creepy thing in the dark with catlike eyes. The final image there is of Nailbat, from ANTIBUNNY, a vigilante rabbit with a bat with a nail embedded in it—which is a pretty scary thought in and of itself.
We'll find out next time why none of the previous readers/keepers of Rachel's journal figured out what effect the journal entry's would have on Smiley, until the Green Avenger discovered it. Plus the final fate of Smiley. We're getting VERY near the end, people.
A new BAD GUY HIGH ADVENTURES is up, featuring our group plus (or against, rather) SuperDan--including Das in the cat suit! Not to be missed! That's at http://www.drunkduck.com/Bad_Guy_High_Adventures/index.php?p=697464

Rachel was the whole focus of his life, the whole reason for what he was doing. I don't think he COULD have stopped reading--especially if this was on the same page as the access codes.
And thus the revenge is suddenly naught as there is nothing to revenge...
In his heart, in the beginning, the Smiling Man was a good man, then his lost his heart... and just found it again with his love...
D'oh! Slaughtered billions of innocent people after having been driven insane by the loss of your own true love, only to discover that she embraced her fate as a consequence of her actions rather than endanger those very lives you went on to destroy in her name? Que the trombone!
"Wah-wah-waaaahh!"
BTW, there's a new BAD GUY HIGH ADVENTURES that ties directly into a CROSSOVERLORD page--the one where the Green Avenger walks up to Smiley, with Ultra in his energy form by her side--at http://www.drunkduck.com/Bad_Guy_High_Adventures/index.php?p=696550. Another mystery solved!
It's kinda funny how Smiley is reading it out loud, like it's for everyone else's benefit. But I guess that's necessary for the audience. It's more powerful that way too, because you can just imagine him getting emotional as he reads it.
What I like, personally, is that when all their powers come up short---when all their planning and intelligence becomes futile...
What saves them all from disaster... is the human heart.
At the Smiling Man's plan's culmination,
He discovers to great consternation,
His beloved contrived,
To make sure he survived,
As his heart sobs, aborts conflagration.
Also, Mindmistress' facial expression is fantastic. Again, nothing says ultimate disaster better than having the most competent and resourceful character at a distinct disadvantage.
The day that Smiley destroyed your reality was the most important day of your life. But for him, it was Tuesday.
No wait, it's Thursday. Garrrgghh! Why did I only think of THAT reference just now?!

so you mean to say Debbie and Ringo never read that part?

whoah, the only thing or person who could have stopped him is his love. That was out of the blue. Good thing he kept reading.

Absolutely. I can't disclose an exact time frame at the moment, but it's coming.

Neil, when this comes to a close, will you be resuming Dasien? (I hope so).

He ain't smiling no more. I dunno if that means it's over or something worse is about to happen...
Sebastian_Sandberg at 2:19AM, April 29, 2010
You know what really makes this page deep? The Smiling Man stopped smiling. The Smiling Man. Stopped. Smiling. That alone makes this awesome!
Neilsama at 1:14AM, April 29, 2010
The part of this page that I like is that Mindmistress, for once, is stunned. The character with all the answers suddenly doesn't have one.
