Always wondered how many views it would take to get into the Duck's Top Ten Webcomics. And now I know! (Apparently 1143 views).

Always kind of wondered how many views it would take...

I never knew exactly how it worked, whether it was based on views, update frequency, attention, etc. As I've mentioned in another thread, it seems like I always just see some of the same comics in the Top 10, even though I almost never see any of them in the Latest Updates.

Probably views.

If the comic has a large archive, it can be as simple as ONE person reading a thousand page archive, or two or three reading a three hundred page archive. I always get boosts around DD awards times as the judges look through the archives. Usually also get a new “favorite ” and “like” too.
It's entirely views. However, how long the comic stays there can vary. It can linger for a whole week with one day of 1000 views and three with 300-200 views. Ads csn help. Often I'll see a new comic appear in the top ten and wouldn't you know their ad is right there.
If you ask me, and you probably didn't, a lot is staying power. The comic stays up there, it'll stay up there because everyone sees it because it's up there. Also a lot of the comics there have huge archives. It only takes one person reading the whole archive to keep it up there.

VAMPIRE GIRL was always intended to be a short subject/miniseries anyway, so that would obviously leave it out of the running, although, I did just recently see it pop up in Quail's Random for the very first (and so far only) time, so that was an unexpected treat to say the least.

Interstellar_Battle_Girls got its usual Sunday traffic so got a nice bump for the beginning of the week. It's nice to do a hundred page comic so someone reading the archive gets the comic that bump.
I have no idea who thinks it's worth reading Sundays but it's a regular thing now. A couple weeks of ads might even get it back into the top ten. Starting my IRA this paycheck so it's not happening any time soon. Lol

I've never made top 5, but since being top 1 appears to be a distant dream for pretty much all ducks now (at least until the different, genre-based ranking system gets implemented, but with Alexey out of the picture, that could take… I don't even wanna know how much time) making Top 5 will be the most I aspire for these coming months or years.

It's a good feeling to get there.
It takes a LOT of views, but not as much as it did in the past.
There was a time after the site died and was reborn that the top ten ws frozen. It did NOT update at all. Due to a fault with the site.
We tasked Hippie Van with being the top ten manager. Every day or so she would look at the views comics had and also check their updates, or popularity of something and manually rearrange them. Comics that had not updated for a week couldn't be in the top ten. It worked super well!
When we finally got Alexey to fix it, not having Hippie Van do it anymore was really sad :(
