CRITICS ACCLAIM
the artist makes the best use of the medium, illustrating a better understanding of positive/negative space with stronger linework.
immediately gets high marks in my book just because the artist seems to have such a good grasp of composition and feels very gestural.
The artist also isn't afraid to use solid black and high contrast, which is what I like! The use of white to create highlights on black surfaces is well done and is fitting for the art style

Awesome! I like the way you put Nails and the Champ in this. Nice seeing someone else's version of my fellas. Grats Lola!

Y'know, I've heard some cartoonists say that they wish they were making comics in the days when they were an emerging art form. This presentation shows why I would never wish that-- Comics from those days are blank pieces of paper! Congratulations, Lola!

This is one of the funniest presentations this year xD. That old man is so disagreeable; "does anyone have an extra adult diaper?", haha! Congrats to Lola! Judging from the rave judges' comments it's well-deserved.

Hooooly shit. This is the best birthday present ever. I'm going to cry, seriously. Thank you so much! Well, I was really just going to be happy with the nomination and was not expecting to win at all with such amazing nominees. DAJB is right, it must have been a hard choice to make. Anyway, thanks again to the readers who nominated me, the judges who chose me, and thanks to darrell for a fabulous and hilarious presentation, too. Okay, okay, I'm done. No need to bust out the orchestra to play me off the podium...

Wow - such different styles in all these finalists. I imagine this must have been another very difficult category to judge! Extra special congrats then to Lola on a well deserved award! Oh, and the presentation is excellent, from the "in my day B&W comics were just blank pieces of white paper" to the sight of little Lola, too small for her chair!
