Personally I found the whole zombies revival (punnn… ugh) trend irritating from the begiming and the mashup trend of mixing genres was even MORE annoying, but whatever- they were both massively popular things and people liked them a lot so I'm on the minority.

I think they've managed to capture the look of Georgian Britain quite well, the accents of some of the actors are a bit pathetic but it's not a serious film so they get a half pass.
The zombie thing seems to work ok but the weapons and fighting style pisses me off unreasonably! This is during the Napoleaonic wars, Britian SPECIALISED in making deadly weapons and had highly refined martial arts.

They got the look of the sets so perfect and the costumes, why not use real period weapons and fihting styles instead of super shitty 1990s style plastic TV kung-fu from episodes of Buffy, with bad chinese weapons? That's just SO lame.
That style of over-coreographed pseudo Kung-Fu was boring as shit back when they were first swiping it from Asian martial art films for US TV shows back in the ‘90s. At THIS stage it’s like an overdone joke… The equivilent of “Whhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaatttt? Over NINE THOUSAND????”

That's my crotchety take on this.

The reason for the kung-fuey type weapons is in the novel, a few of the charaters were trained to fight by shaolin monks, if I remember right.
