Filler: Biggest Fan

I will be out of town for a few days to visit two of my best friends in the city I left behind (the one that inspired Used Books). They and my loved/hated former town are a big source of inspiration, so I try to make the trip at least once a year. (We also binge-watch Detective Conan together.)
Since we are between chapters, although it is early, I figured it was a good time for the annual Halloween filler. It could well be canonical. Enjoy.

We had a three story house, and sound didn't travel well in it, so we didn't know they were there. (We were all upstairs in our rooms.) Our roommate Bethany got home from work at 2 AM (she's a night guard) and found the door open and our cat hiding under the couch. So, Bethany roused us, and we called the police and canceled our cards.

I totally get it. I have a similar relationship with Los Angeles, a place I called home for the better half of the last decade. It is my college town and most of my social network still lives there. I just can not justify the high cost of living to be in close proximity to my friends. It is only a train ride away, so I am enjoying life in the suburbs. Wow! A robber entered your home while everyone was there? That is one of my worst nightmares. I used to always turn my head a hundred times while walking alone at night because I was always worried about being followed by strangers.

Thanks! @Kawaii: It's not the town I grew up in but the one where I went to college/grad school. (I have never looked back at my childhood home.) My main disdain includes two things. 1. I felt "kicked out" due to lack of work post-graduation. (After a year of searching, I got a $5 and hour, 20ish hours a week position in a grocery store.) And 2. Our house was robbed -- while my roommates and I were home. Basically, I love and miss my roommates. I loved public transportation and city conveniences, but it's a high crime place. It didn't hit me how bad it was until just before I moved, but every person I knew had their car or home robbed or were "polite mugged" or violent mugged. Sirens are frequent, yelling and gunshots are common. In short, I like to visit. Dunno if I'd live there again.

Whoa, developing 35 mm negatives in a dark room is super creepy! I feel like everyone has somewhat of a similar love/disdain for their hometowns. Mostly because the years spent in them were the awkward, teenage years and people usually return to breed or raise a family. But I get it, being around certain people and towns help feed the story.
