The Cull - Page 28

Things are going from bad to worse for Saphyr. The caverns are where apostates, heretics and other offenders against the faith are kept until they meet their fate in the pit. It remains to be seen how - and if - Saphyr can get out of this situation!
I had fun imagining this dungeon-style area of the hive. The cages are made of the massive ribs of particular types of the Old Ones that the huntresses slay. I hope my attempt at drawing stalagmites/stalagtites and a dripstone cave with the cages embedded in the stone were somewhat successful. I also tried something different with the last panel, casting Saphyr in deep shadows in the foreground. I like the look on her face…if I were Abbath, I would hope she never gets out of there to take her revenge.
By the way - Saphyr's change of dress is not a continuity error - she was stripped of her huntress garb at the entrance to the caves and given this prisoner's apron. I didn't want to waste panels and dialogue on this, so I just made the change, hoping that it would make sense…if it doesn't, now you know ;).
The first chapter is almost over - there will be new faces, more blood, more nudity and lots of other excitement in the next chapter. You have been warned!

@fallopiancrusader: That's an excellent observation - and what's really weird is that I honestly didn't plan the design with that in mind, but now that you say it, it makes perfect sense to see it that way. Subconsciously that's exactly what I must have been thinking when I came up with this society of sorts... Thanks again to all of you for sticking around - the next page is up and wraps up the first Chapter of Saphyr's trials and tribulations - with more yet to come.

I was thinking similarly FC - the prison cells on this page look so 'organic'!

It's interesting that the prisoner's apron is somewhat similar to the high priestesses robe. I'm beginning to wonder if the term "the hive' isn't partially literal: it feels as if their society is somewhat modeled on that of ants or bees.

Man that wound looks so nasty!! And everyone is so cruel and heartless! Things look utterly hopeless! I love this comic!

Sucks to be Saphyr right now... So, more nudity and blood coming soon... challenge accepted... Wait, what?
